Our drummer's on holiday." Roy had been a drummer in the North Ormesby Brass Band. He did the gig and got paid a quid. The next the day they offered him the job full time.After playing the cards clubs as a straight rock and roll band, fate stepped in to take a hand. cards One night at a working men's club there was a power cut. Roy walked up to the front of the stage just to explain what had happened. He can't remember what he said but the audience started to laugh so he decided to tell a few spotless cards clean gags. That night the band had a meeting and they decided to keep the gags in the act because a comedy show band got ten pounds a night more!Over the course of time the band became a duo with Roy playing drums, piano and doing slapstick. The duo were called "Alcock & Brown" after the first people to fly the Atlantic, this is where the flying helmet comes from.
