Case 1 A 6-year-old boy was brought in by his parents for evaluation of allergic and behavioral problems. He suffered from chronic nasal congestion and occasional cough and wheezing, developed hives if licked by a dog. and had episodes of irritability and crying, which his unsaturated mother believed were produced by consumption of sweets. Also of interest was a history of apparently excessive thirst since unsaturated infancy. The child study center of a major university had diagnosed attention deficit disorder, visual motor incoordination, and developmental immaturity and recommended treatment with Ritalin.
