Lipids are a unique class of chemical compounds that all organisms need to survive. They are primarily used for energy storage, membrane structure and as hormones. Lipids can be caffeine effects organized into functional classes based on their chemical structure. We are currently focusing on two of these classes: the phospholipids and the triacylglycerols. The phospholipids are amphipathic molecules which are a major constituent of animal and plant membranes and are also emulsifying agents.
