Another application is use the fatty acid composition of TAG to trace the importance of marine-derived fatty acids in freshwater habitats. Salmon returning to their natal habitats deliver tons of marine-derived biomass. Lipids derived from marine and freshwater habitats differ in their relative amounts of different EFAs.
