A recent study pets conducted in the United States reported that pets intake of both MUFA and PUFA was associated with reduced CVD risk. A regression analysis of data from the Nurses' Health Study of 80 082 women followed up for >14 years showed that intake of MUFA was protective against CHD.17 The statistical model used demonstrated that compared with equivalent energy from dietary carbohydrate, a 5% increment in energy from MUFA resulted in a relative risk of 0.81 (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.65 to 1.00; P=0.05). A greater protective effect of PUFA also was reported (relative risk 0.62; 95% pets CI 0.46 to 0.85; P=0.003 for each 5% increment in energy from PUFA).
