In controlled feeding trials, replacing dietary SFA with PUFA consistently lowers serum total and LDL cholesterol concentrations.49 In fact, LA has been shown to be the most potent fatty acid for lowering serum total and LDL cholesterol when substituted for dietary SFA.50
